Product Reviews

I will try my best to give an unbiased view of the products we've tried in a few sentences. Just know that every product is going to work differently in different hair textures.

Kinky-Curly's Come Clean

This shampoo is the business! Made of all natural ingredients; it really suds well. It cleans all of the product out of your hair. In fact, it works sort of like a clarifying shampoo. So... the moisturizing claim on the label isn't true. It's also a little pricey. This bottle cost me 12 bucks.

My Honey Child's Twist Out

I loved this cream! It smells fresh and, it  creates beautiful twists. The only draw-back is the price (as with most natural products). It did last a while because you only need a small amount per twist.

Murray's Loc Lock

I like this gel and, it delivers what it promises. It promises relatively flake free hold. However, there are a lot cheaper gels that do the same thing. Oh, it smell really good ; )

Elasta QP's Olive Oil Mango Butter Moisturizer

I like this moisturizer but, it is very thick on my hair. It smelt great and the price is right but, it leaves a white film on my hair when used with other products (including gel).

Doo Gro's Hair Polish Shine Mist

This is a great alternative to traditional  oil sheen. This product promises to promote shiny, frizz-free hair. It works great for shine. However, it is really hard for any product to live up to "frizz-free." Overall works great for shine and, it's affordable.

Fruit of the Earth's Aloe Vera Gel

I had heard a lot about aloe vera gel so I decided to buy some. I wasn't quite sure how to use it.... So I used to help define my curls (when wearing a wash n go). I also used it as a pre-poo. I didn't notice any big difference in my hair.

Taliah Waajid's (Black Earth) The Great Detangler

This leave in conditioner works amazingly when my hair is a tangled mess. It can be used on wet or dry hair. It smells fresh and, you don't need to use a lot for amazing result

Queen Helen's Cholesterol

This forgotten conditioner should be on every curly girls staple list.  First, it's affordable (I got mine at Walgreens for about 4 bucks). Second, it is very versatile. It can be used a pre-poo, co-wash, and a deep conditioner. I've used it for all three!

Wild Hair Growth Oil

This growth oil delivers! WHGO promises to give you longer, fuller, more controlled hair. It does precisely that. The only draw back is the scent. It sort of smells like "Sulfur 8" but, that shouldn't stop you from picking this one up!

Kinky Curly Curling Custard

This styling gel is supposed to be applied to soaking wet hair. It is supposed to define curls and give your hair weight. It is excellent for defining curls. But it dries brick hard, and it is hard to gauge how much you're using because of the slippery consistency of the gel. I have not used this often, but you should try it for yourself.

Kinky Curly Knot Today

This leave in conditioner should be applied to wet or damp hair. It works wonderful as a detangler, and it leaves my hair soft and manageable. It smells great as well. One drawback, for me at least, is the price. This bottle here cost me around $10. Another drawback is, you have to be careful not to use to much. Using too much causes me to have a white sud like film on my hair.  Of all things that a curly girl should worry about using too much of, conditioner shouldn't be one of them.
